"I discovered kombucha about 10 years ago. I was 6ft, 150 lbs, coffee drinkin smoker. after drinking kombucha for a couple of weeks I quit drinking coffee. 2 months after I quit smoking. I drank kombucha for about 6 months and gained 30 lbs of healthy body mass. For a while I was drinking a pint a day. "I was first introduced to KM Tea in 1994 by a white-haired smoker who I happened to play a monthly round of golf with over the course of that spring, summer and fall. About the second round, he started yapping on and on about Kombucha tea, how his emphazima was going away, and about all the people he knew whose health problems were going away, ect. Then one evening I was watching TV when my favorite local Newslady, Linda Cavenaugh in Oklahoma City was interviewing two ladies who had been in poor health for years until finding Kombucha Tea. Now they were enjoying life again and thrilled to be back in their gardens.

What next caught my attention was that the color of my golfing companion's hair had started to take on a slight reddish blush. When I asked, he said he had been a redhead.

I brought my first KM back from Oklahoma that fall and have been drinking it nearly every day since then. When traveling, I take some in tightly sealed containers in my checked luggage or buy some at conscious food stores.

I have noticed many people whose comments indicate that they drink 16-24 ounces per day. I have been drinking about 6-8 ounces per day with great results. During the past 13 years, there have been only two days when I didn't feel like going to work.

I started drinking KMT when I was 50 and have about the same amount of gray hair now that I did then. After I was on the Tea for about 6 months, my longtime hair stylist asked if I was dying my hair. When I told her about the KMT, she said that a lady client of hers had started the Tea and after 2 years had gone from mainly grey to mainly brown.

"I've been brewing my own for only a couple weeks; but I love the feel and effect for overall vitality, or mood in particular. I'm doing this partly as an experiment: I'd love to be able to report that I'm getting increased help with a partial seizure problem (from a brain surgery 5 yrs. ago). We'll see!! Supposedly the beta -glucans found in KT are effective for reducing brain tumors and scars, and that may still be an issue for me.

"In January 2006 my partner was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer with a PSA of nearly 800. The cancer had spread to the hip and thigh, the pain was insupportable. After ten days of taking increasing doses of Kombucha (starting at 50ml and going up in 50ml increments culminating in a litre a day in four 250ml doses), all the pain had gone and he was able to walk normally without even a walking stick. The flesh of the right leg had become almost necrotised, and not only was it restored but varicose veins which had been present for decades disappeared completely. A catheter had been inserted and we were expecting the (usually) necessary operation in June 2006, but the trial without catheter was passed after the third attempt. In 6 months the PSA was down to 127, after 18 months it had dropped to 0.8 (normal is between 0 and 4.0). The prescribed medicine is 3-monthly injections of Zoladex, which treatment began some weeks after the Kombucha had worked its miracle and got rid of the awful pain, at the very least?". . . C.G.

"I started drinking kombucha about a month ago when I was looking for an "energy drink" at the health food store. I didn't know what it was until a friend told me more about it when she saw me drinking it. Nobody had told me to expect this, but I noticed immediately that it took care of my constipation. Not to be gross or give too many details, but the constipation I get is more than an inconvenience. I normally only have a bowel movement about every 5 days, and that has led to some major problems. I've even had to have rectal surgery as a result of an infection I got (probably from passing hard stools). When I drink the kombucha, I have a bowel movement every day. "I use Kombucha and love it. Recently my 13 y/o Lab was diagnosed with a vicious cancer that started with a large tumor in her mouth. It was removed surgically but after the biopsy we were told she had less than a month to two months to live. I had very high energy levels, didn't have to see a doctor apart from routine medical check ups nor take prescription drugs. I'm going to mail you some more amazing experiences but will keep this one short. During the winter of 1997, a nasty flu virus left hundreds of people suceptible to acute rhumatiod arthritis. By the time we realized what the flu had lead to, I was too paralyzed to dress myself. I spent 3 weeks in the physical rehabilitation hospital "learning how to cope with my new disability". After I was discharged, the first thing I did was to dive into my K-tea factory. I had been brewing it and passing it on to needy people, not realizing how run down my immune system was. It took two more weeks before I could bend my hands to grasp the steering wheel properly.

Day by day Kombucha flushed the "flare-up" out of my body. At the six week check-up, I was the only one from my ward that wasn't on steroids and "the little blue liver pill". So because of that I was treated with disgust by the medical staff. I came home, looked at my Kirlian photo on the fridge, poured another glass of K-Tea and knew I would be just fine.

The following summer I played a great season on a womens' fastball team. I played one more summer after that until I took up golfing. Not bad for a 53 yr. old granny with "a severe disability".

" In September of 1996 I had a growth removed from my lower left side of my back and October 1996 was diagnosed with "Cutaeneous B-cell Lymphoma". "I had suffered a by-pass surgery and my wife, always researching about alternative medicine found this site about Kombucha tea, she had heard of that a few years ago and since I was up to another stent (a procedure similar to a by-pass heart surgery) we decided to give it a try. To make a long story a short one, I never had the by-pass surgery, never needed it. Many of you will be skeptical about drinking this "health" remedy -- much like I was. When my husband first came home from work talking about Kombucha stories from other employees, I thought it was bunk, he was crazy, and that the effects people were feeling at his workplace were simply the "placebo effect". As a Microbiologist, I was especially skeptical. But, after much research and study, I agreed that it would be safe to make at home, (follow the instructions), and I made my husband his first culture. After about 2 weeks, he began to feel better. That's when I gave it a try. That was 8 years ago.

One word of advise! Don't stop drinking Kombucha just because you no longer feel any "new" benefits after a while, or because you just get too busy to make it. Kombucha continues to work as long as you drink it. What occurs is that you simply become accustomed to feeling better. If you stop drinking Kombucha, however, for a week or two, you'll begin to feel like you did BEFORE you began drinking the tea. It will occur gradually, till one day you realize that the reason you're feeling worse is probably because you're not drinking your daily Kombucha.

We're strong advocates of Kombucha. It's the ONLY health supplement we take aside from Vitamins/Minerals. Give it a try, a reasonable time to work (at least a month), and keep track of how you feel every day. Hopefully, you'll be as amazed as we were.

"I will give you feed back as to what improvements i observe from (taking Kombucha) this . About two months ago, I found a golf ball size lump in my breast. I went to the doctor to find out i (thank god) only have an infected milk duct. this is non-life threatening and non-cancerous, curable condition. I have been on two different antibiotics (including Cipro which is the anti-anthrax drug) and each time the lump has reformed, reinfected and caused my body additional discomfort from the antibiotics. I have just read all of the info on your website with interest as I have been a regular Kombucha maker and drinker for many years now. I am 70 yrs old and in excellent health in spite of a serious knee fracture two years ago. However, I question your prosessing description. I personally have found that making smaller quanities makes for a better tasting and fresher drink. I have at least three 'bottles' on the go always each holds about a pint of liquid. I syphon the Kombucha off after three days so as not to disturb too greatly the residue and hence get a clear liquid, effervesant drink. This way I always have fresh, not a vinegary drink. I take off the 'babies' about once a week and take out the mother 'mushroom' and use a 'baby' about once a month. I appreciate your articles. I have been doing Kombucha for only about 7 weeks. I am glad and encouraged just to find out what is contained in the stuff. About 7 years ago I was having chronic sinus problems, nose bleeds and headaches. I believe this was caused due to the fact that I was working in a climate controlled building for 3 years and the recycled air was unhealthy. I quit that job and took 6 months off to decide what I would really love to do. I did not really know at the time the extent of my sinus problem because it came on gradually and I accepted the way I felt. One day my husband saw a morning show that had a story about Kombucha. He had never heard of it but thought it would interest me. The moment I heard the name I knew I had to find out more, I needed to try it. No one had heard of it and I thought I'd never get a contact. Then one day there was an article in my local paper. I immediately wrote and got a mushroom. I did 4 ounces 3 times a day for 3 months. My husband has Parkinson and we found out about this condition about 6 years ago and we got one of the Kombucha mushrooms down in Tenn. I made the tea and got him started on it. Subject: ABDOMINAL PAIN

I had become interested in the use of Kombucha tea mainly due to this forum, which I had seen, mentioned in a gopher listing. E.C.'s generous offer of a shroom and starter tea was eagerly accepted, and I followed the standard methods of making the culture. In my case, I used the pedestrian Lipton's tea, a non-cane white sugar, and a tallish nonleaded glass vase covered with a white dish towel held in place with a rubber band. The fermentation took place on a high, dark shelf in my bookcase. I just began drinking the tea a couple of days ago. In the last several months I have spent approximately $1500 for medical visits and procedures for an undiagnosed stomach condition. I had numerous blood tests, barium enema, colonoscopy, abdominal sonogram, etc.

What I suffered from primarily was excessive gas, irregularity, and constant pain in the upper and lower left quadrants, weakness, slight fever, and many more minor symptoms. I was treated with several medications, but the only thing, which helped at all, was AXID, an H2 blocker medication often used for ulcers and reflux disorders. I would take an AXID tablet before meals and while this was palliative, it was proving less and less satisfactory the longer I took the drug. I am certain that my condition was not hypochondriac because I'm not the type. Before onset, I had been in excellent health and without complaint, and in fact had not even visited a physician for several years because I had no health difficulties.

Almost immediately after drinking the tea, my stomach felt much better, quantity of gas decreased markedly. I wondered whether a placebo effect might explain my improvement. But the next day, I felt even better. Belching stopped and there was no pain. There is little doubt in my mind that Kombucha tea has a very beneficial effect on my condition. I was getting ready to discuss this with my physician, but sadly, he passed away yesterday. If after a few days, my condition does not deteriorate from what it is today, I will consider discontinuing the AXID. For the first time in several months I feel normal.

Update: October 02,

I continue to use Kombucha tea daily to control my condition. I have stopped the use of Axid entirely. Kombucha hasn't cured me--I know this because when I stop taking it, within two or so days, my condition worsens. Still, while I use the Kombucha tea I am o.k. and am very thankful to have been introduced to it via the Kombucha list.

I have been brewing and drinking Kombucha for nine months with amazing results, like those wild testimonials in the literature; facial wrinkles (I'm 60) filled in, gray hair turned back to normal; I sleep better, bowel function is better. I was at first wary - - thinking like the skeptics on this list that these claims were too extreme. I have Hepatitis C and I started drinking Kombucha about three weeks ago. At first I got a bad side ache and my liver hurt a little bit so I backed off of it for a few days. Then when I started drinking it again, I just drank 2 ounces instead of 4.

Anyway, now I feel better than I have for a year. My stomach was really bothering me and that's better now. My skin is great. But best of all, the horrible fatigue and nausea from the hepatitis is completely gone.

Hi! I have been drinking the tea for about 2 months. The only noticeable results I have had (and it is a vast difference) is the ability to tolerate alcohol much better. I am not an alcoholic but enjoy a drink now and then. My system had gotten to a point where even one glass of wine would have me feeling sick the next day. Now I can drink 2 or 3 times that with no bad effect. I don't intend to abuse this but its great to be able to go out to dinner with friends and not have to be a teetotaler. I had to lie down for about 10 minutes I now have no pain when drinking the tea what so ever. For the first two weeks I went through an intestinal cleansing process, everything is regulated now. But as time went on with my faith that I have vested in the Kombucha culture, it has definitely paid off for me. I give it to my family everyday and we are all doing better.

p.s. Because of the regulation of my blood sugar I have also safely lost 12 pounds!

Subject: INCREASED IMMUNITY TO COLDS
I have been drinking K-Tea for 5 months now and have experienced many of the same things the rest of you have: High energy, overall sense of well being, immunity to colds going around, skin improvement, etc. However one totally UNEXPECTED result is that my mostly gray hair seems to be turning black. I didn't notice at first, but now several people have asked me what I'm doing to my hair. Anyone else experiencing this???

Subject: BACK PAIN
I have been on K-shrooms for 3 days, have noted no adverse side effects taking 4 oz a day. Most all mornings when I awake I have minor pain and stiffness in the lower back due to arthritis associated with a minor injury to the 3rd lower lumbar vertebrae, this morning that pain and stiffness was not present which is unusual enough for me to notice it was gone. While it is to early to say that the K-shroom is responsible it is the only thing that has changed in my diet and if the improved condition continues I will have to draw the conclusion that the shroom has helped.

I am drinking about 6 oz. now in the morning and 3-4 oz. before Igo to bed. The tea is the same as everyone else describes, i.e. black tea, white sugar, 7-9 days fermentation. The change has been gradual(about 4-5 months now) and the rate of change seems to have slowed. Not something I was looking for, but at 46 and 70% gray/white I welcome the change. I would guess about 1/3 of what was once gray is now black.

Subject: ENDOMETRIOSIS

I have been drinking Kombucha for about three months now. I've certainly noticed some interesting effects. The first morning my husband and I drank it, we had our usual high-test coffee right after. Neither of us was able to SHUT UP all day! We did this for about 3 or 4 more days before switching to decaf out of pity for the ears of the poor people who have to work with us. Has anyone else experienced this? I find that it has a similar effect with alcohol. After the first month I started to drink it in the evening as well as in the morning. Twice now, I've had a nightcap a couple of hours after drinking the K-tea. Both times I was nearly able to finish my drink before I started snoring. Alcohol usually does put me out, hence my occasional bedtime drink, but this is ridiculous.

Also, this stuff is absolutely a cure for endometriosis. I don't mean that it makes it better. I mean, for me at least, that it is a cure. I've been holding out against surgery for a long time now, and I can't say what a RELIEF it is to have the problem just be gone. Everything seems to be working in a normal way. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience with endometriosis and Kombucha tea.

I have been drinking Kombucha (Manchurian) Mushroom Tea for overa year. It's made my hair grow faster and my hair stylist and colorist can't believe it's thicker. The texture is healthier, shinier and the Kombucha eliminates gray. At first, an acne condition was worsened when I drank the juice, but my skin cleared after a few weeks and it's never been better. I sleep easier and have more energy.

It's had miraculous effects on my family! My mother has Lupus. Even my nephew's pet rat, who was riddled with cancer was able to survive for about nine months longer than the vet predicted. Hello My experience as follows: began using Kombucha 4 weeks ago.brew consists of 3 qt's purified water. 1 cup raw sugar. 5 bags black tea.

No discernible effects for 2 weeks. never suffered from constipation but currently bowel function seems to occur every morning w/out fail. Eye strain greatly diminished. Circulation improving (warm feet, hands) noticed some broken capillaries around the nose. :( general sense of well being? less anxiety? maybe... wonderful ability to fall asleep when i want to... :) girlfriend reports similar feelings/reactions.

BTW.... we got our Kombucha from a former co-worker (girlfriend).this Kombucha was generations before was given to a desperately ill father of another co-worker. this is third-person stuff - I never met the ill person. This is day 5 for me drinking k-tea. I am 52, in good health, but seem tired a lot (before drinking the tea). I cannot believe how energetic I have felt these last 4 days- psychological or not??? I suffered for 10 years (that is 45 to 55 years of age) from what the main-stream medical fraternity diagnosed as prostatisis. As you mentioned, it will help to add 10% from the old batch to the new because that helps protect the Kombucha from bacteria etc. while it's baby gets a good start.

Also, I've noticed that people's testimonials vary, so that some get a lot of benefits from Kombucha and others have less benefits. My husband's health has improved a lot , energy, sinuses, all around health. For me I noticed a better complexion, healthier hair, and my hemorrhoids went away ( I'monly 26 so I don't know why I should have those anyway. Good riddance to them I say ). We noticed benefits right away andthey gradually increased as time went along.

I've noticed that when I drink it before going to work in the mornings that I don't get hungry until well after lunch time. Hope this helps.

This begins my third week of drinking the tea and here's what I've noticed. I have a mild case of eczema on my face, which the tea hasn't seemed to touch. My primary reason for trying Kombucha was for chronic (13 years)back pain. I plan to give the drink a good 6 months to see if it causes any improvement here. I do believe the drink is making me more energetic which is naturally making me want to be more active. Beyond that, I don't know.

Most dramatic is that I seem to need less sleep. I'm waking up at least an hour earlier than normal -- and I am alert when my eyes open. Also, I have been a coffee addict for over ten years. I believe I've had coffee everyday of those years. The first time I drank Kombucha, I completely forgot about making coffee. It wasn't until the afternoon, when I got a coffee headache, thatI realized what I had done. Today, I didn't make my morning coffee until after 4 pm. I have cut my coffee consumption to about 1/3 of what it was a month ago.

I began keeping a journal a while ago, just to keep track of myside effects. So far, I haven't noticed any adverse ones.

I noticed that after about 3 weeks the stiffness and soreness in my hips/legs that I experience daily (in the morning and at work after long bouts of sitting) totally disappeared! I didn't even think about it until someone mentioned arthritic pain disappearing after only 3 days. So, mine may have started to disappear much earlier. (I don't think mine is arthritic, I always blamed it on the bed.) I also wake up without fogginess and headaches, but maybe that's due to not drinking as much winenow and the fact I'm usually in a fog anyway. My energy level is up, but not drastically. I do weight training a few times a weekand I've noticed that my muscles don't get quite as sore as they used to.

The second week of drinking the tea, I experienced bloating and gas for a while. I was told that was common, as my system was cleansing itself. For once in my adult life, my bowel activity is becoming regular and I can really tell that I am detoxifying.

I gave a taste of Kombucha tea to someone who visited my office. Later that afternoon, she became very excited because after years of having severe constipation problems, the Kombucha worked immediately. I had not mentioned that to her at all, and didn't know she had any problems with it. She wants it... I must say that is the first thing I noticed after using it. It's one way to get a clean bill of health.

I gave some to my daughter last night because she was stung by a yellow bee. She actually liked the taste (hooray). I told her to expect a bathroom break before going to school. Like clockwork! Hi there, I have been drinking the tea for about 2 months now. I have had good results so far as I can tell. I started drinking the tea for my gout attacks. It seems to help. I am currently drinking 16oz of tea a day, 8oz in the morning, and 8oz before I retire for the day. Well, yesterday, I got a gout attack on my left ankle. It wasn't full blown to the point that I couldn't walk, but it was uncomfortable.

This is the second attack I have had since drinking the tea. I then was surfing the net, and came across the WWW page on Kombucha. There was a section by Dr. Huntoon, which I read, and it states to only drink 4oz a day. I then proceeded to call his office. The person I spoke to said to drink only 4oz a day. Then I can increase the dosage to 6oz after drinking the tea for 6 months. She said that if I drink too much the body will spill over the toxins and the liver will be overworked. I tried to think in my mind how this would happen. I thought that if you drink too much, the body should just get rid of it. I don't know. Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

Another thing, positive of course. Since drinking the tea, my elbows/joints are feeling better than they have felt in years. I can now do overhead triceps movements, where as before, the elbow always stays pointing to the ground or parallel, but never overhead. In other words, my tendonitis on my elbows seem to have disappeared. My chiropractor used to have to treat it almost every other week, but since drinking the tea, the pain is gone. I have only introduced the tea to my diet, everything else stayed the same. I know its only anecdotal evidence, but heck, it seems to work for me!!

Subject: ASTHMA, CANKER SORES, & WEIGHT LOSS

About the mouth sores,....I used to have very painful canker sores happening all the time in my mouth, that would sometimes take weeks to clear-up. They were a side effect caused by some of the corticosteroid medication I need to take. But since I started drinking Kombucha tea several months ago, I hardly ever get them. The odd one that tries to start up is now gone in afew hours.

I drink more than 20 ounces of Kombucha tea a day. My energy levels have dramatically increased as well.

I drink 30 plus ounces of Kombucha tea per day now.

When I started to drink Kombucha tea in March, , I weighed 125pounds... I am 5' 3 1/2 tall, 55 years of age, and I now weigh112 pounds.

There has been no change in my diet and no new medication. I have been able to decrease the dose of some of the medication ,something totally unheard of in my case for 16 years.

I have had very severe intrinsic asthma for 16 years, and 10 years ago I developed C.O.P.D, (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) . Because of the progressively debilitating nature of these lung diseases, I had not been able to walk more than a few yards during the last 10 years without experiencing extreme shortness of breath during any exertion.

Now, for the last three months I have been able to go out-side for a walk, and walk for up to 2 miles. My asthma is still severe, but, not as severe as it has been.

For the first time in 16 years, I feel hope for survival.
